Australian Baseball League

Who’s ready for some Australian Baseball League action? It was one of the must-see/shoot items on my list.

When I started looking at schedules, I was worried that getting to a game might not happen as ABL teams only play on the weekends. Throw in how few teams there are and their locations, it was proving difficult to find a game to attend. Finally, as my schedule came together, I found one game that I would be able to get to during my five weeks. Perth vs. Adelaide. I jumped on the chance to go and shoot it.

To say the game was not what I thought it would be would be an understatement. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn’t what I saw. The field was a converted Australian Rules Football field. So the dimensions of the field were weird. There were no dugouts. Rather lawn chairs and a popup canvas covering. The team photographer was even sitting on the field next to third base editing photos…during the game!

Most of the players in the ABL are Australian or Japanese. There were a few from the States, but not many.

I definitely enjoyed shooting my first ABL game. It was truly an experience. However, I am looking forward to getting back in the photo well at some of my more familiar places this spring.
