Rottnest Island

Welcome to Rottnest Island, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been! I have been lucky enough to see some incredible places around the world, but none of them have left me quite as speechless as Rottnest. This place is beautiful. The water was an array of colors and teeming with life.

Sticking my feet in the Indian Ocean for the first time!

There are no cars on Rottnest Island so the best way to get around is by bike. There is very little traffic or noise. You really have the opportunity to wrap yourself in the nature and beauty around you. There are so many beaches that you can spend all day in one spot and seldom see other people.

This old shipwreck is a snorkeler’s paradise! Wildlife dash in, out and around the wreck all day.

This is the Quokka, the happiest animal in the world. They are called that because it appears as though they are always smiling. My desperate desire to meet one was the driving force behind my trip to Perth. Quokkas are only found on a few islands off the coast of Western Australia. Due to several factors, their population has been just about eliminated on the mainland. Efforts are underway to reintroduce them to the areas where they once thrived.

Most of them won’t let you touch them. However, this little guy came and snuggled up to me while I was sitting on a bench. He must have had a bad itch because he went crazy when I scratched him above his tail.

Even though they are much smaller in size, Quokkas are very similar to kangaroos. They even carry their young in a pouch.

A baby Quokka, is there anything cuter?

Someone was nice enough to snag this photo of me and this little guy. He was very interested in my camera. Below is the photo I am snapping in this picture.

“Hey, whatcha got in there?”
